Artist's Statement, CV

Using lumber of various dimensions I construct geometric patterns that take on a human like form. Through contemplation we can learn who we are and how we represent ourselves. We can also learn how we respond to one another. This combined with my fascination for architecture and the human figure provided inspiration for my new series, Characters. With the 21st Century social media, all can be told. Is our guest well received and entertained? What is our relationship with The Guys and The Gals? Do we meet their needs? In an abstract way Characters creates a dialogue with its’ viewer.

In my series, Portrait Heads I use a life size scale of the human head to pay homage to the caretakers of our planet, the common man. Using the medium of collage I am able to create a kaleidoscope of color, patterns and forms. In creating each of the faces, I fold the paper in different directions to give them some dimension as well as a sense of character.
